National Bible Contest - Chidon Hatanach


On May 2-4 The 2010 National Bible contest took place at the Lipa green Centre. The Bible contest (Chidon Hatanach) is an internationally run contest sponsored by the World Zionist organization and local centres for Jewish education. This contest offers students a chance to study a list of chapters in bible in a given year cycle, and write a preliminary regional test.  Only number of participants continue to the national competition.

There were 94 participants in grade 5-6, 7-8 and 9-11 from Montreal, Toronto and one from Winnipeg. A special division was held for the 7 Toronto supplementary school participants who participated in the February regional contest and had a special learning day at the ROM which connected to their study of Tanach.

The “Chatanim” that will represent Canada in 2011 International Bible Contest in Jerusalem in Yom Ha’atzmaut are: Sarah Marcus independent student from Toronto, Zachary Zarnett-Klein a student of TanenbaumCHAT Wallenberg Campus from Toronto and Josh Cape independent student from Montreal.


We were honored to have  Professors Laura Wiseman and Marty Lockshin from York University as our senior judges. Served as judges were also Rebecca Friedman (just returned from the international in Israel having placed fourth overall), Elisheva Friedman from Toronto and Jeremy Little from Montreal (all past International participants).
